Dante Alighieri - About The Author

The Italian poet Dante, was born near Florence, Italy in the year 1265. He is best known for writing La Divina Commedia (The Divine Comedy), which includes his infamous "Inferno" as one of its principle sections.  Throughout the Divine Comedy, Dante presents visions of hell, purgatory, and heaven -- providing a case by case analysis of the eternities to be endured by a number of celebrated individuals from his era. The Inferno presents different levels or "circles" of hell and depicts his deceased characters suffering the results of human existences which failed at his society's definitive version of goodness. By examining the views inherent in such a work, modern readers gain a better understanding of 13 & 14th century European social beliefs regarding issues of morality and integrity.

Both an insightful and infamous work, Dante's Divine Comedy is divided into more than 100 "cantos" -- many of which have a strong tendency to confuse today's students writing essays that analyze this classic. Essays-On-Dante.Com relieves college students from the "hell" of trying to interpret Dante and sheds light on some of the more difficult aspects of his writings.
